Typically a dormer conversion is the same as a roof window conversion & in situations where more headroom is required whether it be due to the minimum headroom requirements above staircases & stairwells or because you just want the room to have more walking space, a dormer with or without windows may be required. There are many types of dormers but most have either a pitched tiled roof being gabled or hipped or flat roof.

Wider dormers generally require a flat roof construction & smaller dormers can be fitted with either roof construction depending on existing roof heights.

Any of these types of dormers can be fitted with a variety of exterior finishes including roof tiles, lead, timber or maintenance free upvc, depending on preference & or site conditions. In most cases the materials used are the ones that are similar to that of the existing property.

We work closely with our dormer windows customers to work out best use of the light and area, we then develop an outline design, arrange for building control approval, structural calculations, & planning permission if required, & carry out the building work to completion. The standard of our workmanship is excellent & we bring a friendly & professional approach to our dormer window work, together with the understanding that we are working in our customers loft and attic spaces & that there needs to be a degree of flexibility in our approach.

Dormer Window Conversion

  • How much headroom do I have?
  • What is the room to be used for?
  • How many rooms do I need?
  • Will I need a bathroom or en suite?
  • Will I need heating?
  • Do I need to keep a certain amount of storage space?
  • Will I need any built in or fitted wardrobes?
  • Will I need any floor finishes fitted?
  • Will I need a full or part build?
  • Is my property listed or in a conservation area?
  • In what room shall I fit the staircase?

There are many different types of staircase with various layouts so even when space is restricted a space saver staircase can be used.

Nearly all roof spaces can be converted assuming there is sufficient headroom, & even in situations where this is not the case in some properties the ceilings in existing bedrooms can be lowered to achieve this, this can all be determined at survey stage if in doubt.

There are many types & shapes of roof structures whether you live in a detached, semi detached or terraced house or bungalow but most are either traditionally built, with timber ceiling joists & summer beam supports, rafters with purlin supports & various posts & braces to spread the roof loads, or a more modern trussed rafter design or w shaped design. Either roof can easily be converted as long as the roof is correctly supported in the various stages of the conversion.

Based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, we cover a wide area including, Bewdley, Stourport on Severn, Bromsgrove, Worcester, Malvern, Droitwich, Shropshire, Tenbury, Bridgnorth, Highley, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Stourbrige, Hagley and surrounding areas.
